2017 began a sonic extension of the collage sources for the print and performance series Universal Capital. Using the collage sources for the work as librettos, my mother Agnes, a former Opera singer, and the composer Jonathan Zorn collaborated to create eight short pieces to accompany the work. The result is harmonious and rapturous, sometimes with Gamelan-like orchestrations that buoy the vocals through such dissonant lyrics as “map of Russian incursion into the Ukraine, graphic of American “Deep State”; Wilhelm Reich, symbol of schizophrenic blockage of Orgone flow; chart of cortisol levels”.

Agnes passed in 2020, and I am overjoyed that her emotive contemplation and sense of wonder will live on.
